ISLAMABAD: Border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have intensified after reports emerged that Pakistani forces assumed control of five additional border posts in Afghanistan’s Paktia province and raised their national flag there.
Security officials said the move followed what they described as unprovoked actions by Afghan Taliban forces along the frontier. The posts reportedly taken over are located across from South Waziristan. Of these, two lie opposite Shawal, two face Angoor Adda, and one is positioned across from Zarmalan.
According to sources, Pakistani troops also demolished the Afghan border terminal at Angoor Adda during the operation. Officials claimed that Afghan Taliban fighters incurred significant casualties amid what they characterized as a firm and decisive response by Pakistan’s security forces.
While no comprehensive official statement has yet been released, security sources maintain that military activity is continuing in the border area as the situation develops.
