Pakistan rejects Indian defence minister’s remarks on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly denounced recent remarks made by the Indian Defence Minister regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, calling the comments provocative and irresponsible.

In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi said the Indian minister’s remarks misrepresent the internationally recognised status of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, which remains on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The spokesperson said the comments reflect what Pakistan described as India’s policy of undermining regional and international peace and security. He further alleged that the statements were intended to divert attention from India’s administration of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), its alleged involvement in destabilising activities in the region, and its internal challenges.

Pakistan also called on the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take notice of what it termed India’s continued conduct and urged global institutions to hold New Delhi accountable for implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which Pakistan says guarantee the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
