KARACHI: Today marks the 74th anniversary of the death of Pakistan’s founding Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan. The observance included a salute by the Pakistan Air Force and a recitation of the Qur’an at his mausoleum in Mazar-e-Quaid.
Liaquat Ali Khan’s grandson, Kamal Liaquat, paid homage at his grave, while Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha. Born in Karnal, British India, on October 1, 1885, he studied at Aligarh Muslim University and Oxford University, and worked closely with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the struggle for Pakistan.
He was assassinated on October 16, 1951, during a public event at Company Bagh in Rawalpindi, now known as Liaquat Bagh. In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari honored Liaquat Ali Khan’s legacy, praising his dedication to Pakistan’s development, stability, and democratic principles, which continue to inspire the nation today.
