Pakistan, Saudi Arabia sign historic pact to fight corruption, Recover Assets

ISLAMABAD: In a significant move towards enhancing cooperation in anti-corruption efforts, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have entered into a groundbreaking agreement focused on combating corruption, money laundering, and asset recovery.

The agreement was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha). The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including NAB Chairman Lt Gen (r) Nazir Ahmed, and Nazaha President Mazin bin Ibrahim, symbolizing the strengthening of bilateral ties in promoting transparency and integrity.

The pact commits both nations to work together more closely through joint investigations, intelligence exchange, and mutual support initiatives. Its goal is to bolster institutional cooperation and improve coordination in the detection and prevention of financial crimes, both domestically and internationally.

During discussions, the Saudi delegation praised NAB’s impressive track record in asset recovery and anti-corruption operations, acknowledging its standing at global forums. Lt Gen (r) Nazir Ahmed reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the international anti-corruption agenda and expressed eagerness to expand collaborative efforts with global partners.

He also lauded Saudi Arabia’s anti-corruption initiatives, viewing them as a positive development for the region. Additionally, he invited Mazin bin Ibrahim to visit Pakistan soon, emphasizing the desire to deepen the brotherly relationship between the two countries.
