Pakistan secures major diplomatic win with Afghanistan truce

ISLAMABAD: The recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan is being hailed as a significant diplomatic and strategic victory for Islamabad. The deal reflects Pakistan’s firm stance demanding an end to all forms of support and facilitation of terrorism from Afghan soil.

According to security and diplomatic sources, the understanding was reached from a “position of strength”, following strong ground action by Pakistan’s armed forces, which compelled the Afghan side to engage in talks.

The details of the agreement have not been made public, which officials say is intended to give Afghanistan space to save face. Sources familiar with the negotiations revealed that no major demand was presented by the Afghan side, whereas Pakistan’s core concerns were acknowledged and accepted.

As per the agreement, all terrorist activities originating from Afghan territory against Pakistan will cease immediately.

A follow-up meeting between the two delegations is scheduled for October 25 in Istanbul, where both sides will discuss technical and operational mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the truce.

Observers say the development is likely to disappoint India, which has allegedly been trying to exploit tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The successful truce is seen as a setback to such efforts and a potential step toward broader regional stability.
