Pakistan seeks UK to re-open dropped money laundering investigation against Altaf

 ISLAMABAD:  The Government of Pakistan has decided to write to the British government to apprise it of its reservations over dropping of money laundering case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain.

The government would urge the British government to review its decision of dropping money laundering investigation and re-initiate the process.

Sources said that the federal government had decided to take up the money laundering issue with the British government.

They said that the government will write to the British government urging it to review its decision of dropping money laundering investigation against Hussain.

They said British government would be requested to reopen the investigation under the Pak-UK mutual cooperation and assistance agreement.

They added that the letter would be written next week.

It is to be mentioned here in October British investigative agency Scotland Yard dropped investigations into the money laundering case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain.

Cases against senior MQM leader Mohammad Anwar and businessman Sarfaraz Merchant were also dropped by the Metropolitan Police. The cases were wrapped up due to what police said lack of evidence.
