ISLAMABAD: Pakistan experienced a significant escalation in terrorist violence during 2025, with attacks increasing by 34 percent, according to the latest Pakistan Security Report 2025 released by the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS).
The report recorded 699 terrorist incidents nationwide during the year. These attacks claimed 1,034 lives, representing a 21 percent rise in fatalities, while 1,366 people sustained injuries, pointing to a troubling increase in overall human losses.
Law enforcement agencies and security forces remained the main targets of militant attacks. A total of 437 security personnel were killed, including 174 police officers, 122 soldiers of the Pakistan Army, and 107 Frontier Corps personnel. In addition, 354 civilians lost their lives in terrorist violence.
During security operations and suicide attacks carried out in 2025, 243 militants were killed. The report noted that 454 attacks were directly attributed to militant organizations, reflecting a noticeable increase compared to 2024.
According to PIPS, the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliated groups were identified as the leading drivers of terrorism. Other active outfits included the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, Lashkar-e-Islam, and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). Violence linked to these groups resulted in 679 deaths and 881 injuries over the year.
The findings highlight a worsening security environment and underline the growing challenges faced by Pakistan in countering militant violence.
