Pakistan Spends Less Than One Percent Of GDP On Health, NA Told

ISLAMABAD: It has been surfaced on Friday in a National Assembly Session that most of the Pakistani inmates locked in Saudi prisons will be released before the Eid and Pakistan is among the countries which are spending lesser than the recommendation of World Health Organization (WHO) in the health sector.

A session of the NA was held under the supervision of deputy speaker Qasim Khan Suri. During the Q&A session, the house was told that according to the proposal of WHO the total health budget should be at least four percent of the GDP and but presently we are spending less than the one percent.

The house was also told about the recent dramatic increase in medical prices. The house was told that previously a ban was imposed on increasing the prices of life-saving drugs which was uplifted in Shahid Khaqan’s tenure which became the major reason for the dramatic increase in medicine prices.

The other major reason for the increase in drug prices was the increase in dollar prices but the auditor general is reviewing the matter.

On a call attention notice over the suspension of funds of Neuro center parliamentary secretary on health, Dr Nausheen told the house that the total two percent of the population is suffering from neural diseases and the funds will be allocated to the basic health sector as it needs more attention.

She also criticized Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for neglecting health sector during their tenure.

A report was also produced in the house about the number of HIV Aids patients in the house.
