LAHORE: Pakistan recently hosted an informal gathering of D-8 Commissioners in Lahore on February 5-6.
According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, the primary goal of this meeting was to bolster the D-8 Secretariat and to approve key financial and administrative issues. The session saw participation from Commissioners representing all D-8 member nations, along with Secretary General of D-8, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood.
During the discussions, the delegates focused on enhancing cooperation and strengthening institutional operations among member countries and with the Secretariat. The delegation also took the opportunity to explore Lahore’s rich history and culture, visiting notable sites such as Wagah Border, Shalimar Gardens, Lahore Fort, and the Badshahi Mosque. Additionally, they attended the Basant Festival at Punch House Lahore.
Tahir Andrabi noted that Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Minister for Agriculture Syed Ishaq Hussain Kirmani warmly welcomed the guests. The visiting dignitaries expressed their appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by Pakistan and conveyed their commitment to deepen cultural, economic, and people-to-people links with Pakistan.
Pakistan Extends Condolences Over Syrian Flood Disasters
The Government and people of Pakistan expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the Syrian Arab Republic following the devastating flash floods in northwest Syria, especially in the regions of Idlib and Latakia. In a statement, the Foreign Office highlighted that their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, wishing swift recovery for those injured. Pakistan reaffirmed its solidarity with Syria during this difficult time, emphasizing their support and compassion for the affected communities.
