Pakistan, U.S. explore opportunities to strengthen counterterrorism efforts, economic collaboration

ISLAMABAD: In a strategic meeting on Thursday, Pakistan and the United States committed to deepening cooperation in counterterrorism and expanding economic partnerships, specifically focusing on the mining, minerals, and energy sectors. 

The discussion took place between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and John Mark Pomeroy, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, as confirmed by an official statement from Pakistan’s interior ministry.

The leaders addressed bilateral relations and regional security concerns, with particular emphasis on enhancing collaboration in internal security and counterterrorism initiatives. Both sides expressed their intent to encourage increased American investment and joint ventures in the targeted sectors.

The U.S. official condemned recent terrorist incidents in Islamabad and Quetta, offering sympathies to the victims and reaffirming the importance of global cooperation in countering terrorism. 

Naqvi highlighted the significance of international partnerships in combating terrorism, emphasizing Pakistan’s openness to U.S. investments in key industries and its commitment to providing a secure environment for foreign investors. He also reiterated Pakistan’s belief in global alliances to promote economic growth and stability.

Pomeroy conveyed that the United States values its relationship with Pakistan highly and recognizes its vital role in regional security. The meeting was attended by notable officials including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, U.S. charge d’affaires Natalie Baker, and other senior representatives from both nations.
