Pakistan, UAE to collaborate on launching ‘Pre-Immigration clearance’ system

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates are set to formalize an agreement to introduce a “Pre-Immigration Clearance” system aimed at streamlining travel processes for passengers.

The decision was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, and a UAE delegation led by Director General of Customs and Port Security, Ahmed bin Lahij Al Falasi. The delegation visited Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss cooperation on this initiative. The pilot phase of the new system will initially be introduced in Karachi.

During the discussions, both sides explored various aspects of Pakistan-UAE relations, mutual collaboration, and ways to simplify immigration procedures for travelers.

Addressing the gathering, Mohsin Naqvi explained that under the proposed Pre-Immigration Clearance system, immigration checks will be conducted within Pakistan before departure. This means that travelers arriving in the UAE will bypass long immigration procedures and will be able to leave the airport as domestic passengers.

Naqvi emphasized that this initiative aims to make travel more convenient, reduce waiting times, and improve the overall experience for passengers. The UAE representatives expressed support for the project, highlighting its benefits for citizens of both nations and reaffirmed their willingness to cooperate fully.

It was agreed that relevant authorities will continue working together to establish the administrative and technical framework for the pilot program. If successful, the system will be gradually expanded to additional cities.

The delegation included officials such as Executive Director of Digital Transformation Jama Abdullah Al Qabi and Executive Director of Airports Hammad Saif Al Mashghouni, along with other senior officials. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Agha were also present at the meeting.
