ISLAMABAD: In a pivotal move toward technological advancement, Pakistan has formally adopted its first National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy. The policy aims to generate three million jobs in the AI sector by 2030 and enhance the nation’s GDP by an estimated 7% to 12%.
Federal Minister for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima, announced that the policy outlines a comprehensive strategy for AI integration across key sectors. It emphasizes ethical and secure AI adoption, with the goal of positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in the global AI landscape.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the local tech infrastructure, foster innovation, and encourage international partnerships that can drive long-term economic progress.
In a related development, Pakistan is expanding its international tech outreach. Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Magsi, held discussions with Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan to bolster bilateral ties in science and technology.
Romania, which is rapidly establishing itself as a European IT hub, has extended an invitation to Pakistan to engage in European Union-funded technology programs. Magsi noted that this collaboration could unlock significant opportunities for Pakistan’s technology sector, including knowledge sharing, funding access, and joint research initiatives.
