ISLAMABAD : Pakistan has expressed its commitment to closely observing the evolving situation in Iran, advocating for a peaceful resolution while underlining its role in fostering regional peace and stability.
During the weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for a peaceful solution to the issues in Iran. He emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to contributing toward peace in the region, highlighting its hope that Iran will soon overcome its current challenges.
Andrabi underscored the importance of Pakistan’s relationship with Iran, describing it as not only a neighboring country but also a significant actor within the global community. He expressed optimism that peace and stability would be restored while reiterating Pakistan’s endorsement of efforts aimed at resolving the crisis peacefully.
On a related note, Andrabi spoke about reports of visa restrictions imposed by the United States, confirming that Pakistan is actively engaging with US authorities to address the situation. He noted that the US is currently reviewing its visa policies and expressed hope that Pakistani visas would be reinstated promptly.
According to Andrabi, the US State Department recently released a brief statement via social media indicating an internal review of immigrant visa procedures. Pakistan has been in constant communication with the relevant US agencies for further clarity. Andrabi acknowledged that the changes appear to be part of a broader overhaul of immigration protocols within the US, urging for the regular processing of visas to resume without delay.
This suspension could potentially disrupt travel, education, and employment plans for numerous Pakistanis who seek opportunities in the US each year. Local Pakistani consulates in the United States are expected to provide guidance to applicants affected by these developments.
The freeze on visa processing stems from the US public-charge rule, which evaluates whether immigrants may require government assistance. While previous suspensions have occurred, this instance has been described as unusually extensive. Although no specific timeframe has been given for reinstating visa services, the State Department has assured that relevant countries will be informed once the review concludes.
