RAWALPINDI: In a strong stance against violence rooted in external influences, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, emphasized that the country would not accept any form of violence triggered by events in other nations. This statement was conveyed during his interaction with prominent religious scholars in Rawalpindi.
An official statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that the military leader met with ulema from the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community, focusing on issues related to national security and the role of religious scholars in fostering societal harmony.
Field Marshal Munir highlighted the importance of ulema in promoting unity, tolerance, and social cohesion, especially in countering misinformation, sectarian divides, and external efforts aimed at destabilizing Pakistan. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to counter-terrorism, stating that the country will act decisively against terrorist networks and their infrastructure, regardless of their location, through targeted intelligence operations.
Addressing the situation in Afghanistan, the COAS urged the Taliban to take responsibility for ensuring that Afghan territory is not used as a base for terrorist activities against Pakistan. He underscored Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote regional stability and de-escalation.
The military leader also stressed the pivotal role of religious scholars in strengthening national unity and combating extremism, warning against the manipulation of religious sentiments to incite violence. He made it clear that violence within Pakistan, especially when incited by incidents in other countries, will not be tolerated.
The ulema present at the meeting expressed their strong desire for peace and stability in Pakistan, condemning violence justified in the name of religion. They pledged their full support to law enforcement agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and order across the nation.
