Pakistani delegation alerts UN General Assembly President on India’s threats to South Asian stability

WEB DESK: Under the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, a high-level parliamentary delegation completed a two-day visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The delegation held meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, the President of the Security Council, representatives of both permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council, diplomats from the OIC group, media, civil society, think tanks, and members of the Pakistani community.

This visit was part of Pakistan’s global advocacy campaign to highlight its stance on regional and international issues. The purpose was to draw attention to India’s irresponsible behavior, unprovoked aggression against Pakistan, inflammatory statements, and unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, which have contributed to regional tensions and pose threats to global peace and security. The delegation conveyed Pakistan’s core message: “Peace with Responsibility” on the international stage.

During the meetings, the delegation emphasized India’s illegal use of force and violations of international law—including the UN Charter and international humanitarian laws. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, highlighting its sacrifices and role in global counter-terrorism efforts. The delegation urged the international community to focus on combating terrorism, emphasizing that cooperation, not politics, is essential.

Pakistan’s responsible, cautious, and lawful response to India’s aggression and provocation was underscored, with the message that Pakistan desires peace but will defend its sovereignty at all costs. The delegation warned that attempts by India to normalize unilateral and unjustified attacks could have dangerous consequences in a nuclear-armed South Asia, and such actions should be firmly rejected by the international community.

The delegation reiterated that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

An appeal was made to the international community to uphold the sanctity of international laws and treaties, to play a constructive role in the restoration and effective implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty, and to support comprehensive negotiations to resolve all longstanding disputes, especially the Kashmir issue.

Finally, the delegation conveyed a clear message at the UN that Pakistan seeks peaceful and constructive relations with all neighbouring countries based on equality and mutual respect, but will not accept any form of aggression, irregularity, or violation of international principles.
