Pakistani film Ghost School garners recognition at the Red Sea Film Festival

WEB DESK: Pakistani film Ghost School has earned the honor of being officially selected for screening at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2025.

This marks a historic first for Pakistan at the prestigious festival, made possible through the dedicated efforts of Nausheen Waseem and the artistic direction of Seemab Gull. The event is scheduled to take place in Jeddah from December 4 to 13.

The selection of Ghost School is being celebrated as a significant breakthrough for Pakistani cinema, showcasing the nation’s increasing global recognition in the film industry.

The film sheds light on how entrenched systems often fail the most vulnerable members of society. Ghost School combines poignant moments with optimistic undertones, imagining a brighter future for children like Rabia.

The story centers on Rabia, a courageous 10-year-old determined to uncover the truth behind her school’s abrupt shutdown. As rumors of supernatural phenomena circulate within the community, Rabia embarks on a journey that reveals a society ensnared by superstition and corruption.

The narrative delves into themes of superstition, limited educational opportunities, and persistent social challenges faced by rural communities.

Prior to its selection at the Red Sea Festival, Ghost School garnered international acclaim following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. At Red Sea, the film is featured in the Families and Children category and will be screened on December 11 at 3 PM in Jeddah’s Culture Square.
