Parliament will ensure good governance, political stability: President

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari expressed hope that the Parliament would ensure good governance, political stability, and meet the expectations of the people.

President Asif Ali Zardari addressed the joint session of Parliament, marking the eighth time a civilian president has inaugurated a new parliamentary year.

He emphasized the need for hard work to strengthen the democratic system and praised the government’s efforts in steering the country in a positive direction.

 

The president highlighted economic progress, noting an increase in foreign exchange reserves and a record-breaking rise in the stock market.

He acknowledged the government’s success in reducing the policy rate from 22% to 12% and stated that other economic indicators were also showing positive trends.

The President reiterated the importance of focusing on public service and welfare projects, urging policymakers to prioritize initiatives that directly benefit the people.

President has reiterated the nation’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, emphasizing that the country is well aware of the external support and funding received by terrorist groups.

Speaking on national security, the President paid tribute to the security forces for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, stating that they have laid down their lives to protect the nation.

“We cannot allow terrorism to resurface,” he asserted, reaffirming the government’s determination to eliminate this menace with the support of the people and the brave armed forces.

“The entire nation is proud of our security forces,” the President stated, acknowledging their bravery, dedication, and countless sacrifices for the country.

He also underscored the root causes of militancy, pointing out that deprivation and inequality often fuel extremism.

The President stressed the need to focus on the development of the most terrorism-affected regions by creating employment opportunities and ensuring economic progress.

The President called on the parliament to reaffirm its commitment to democracy, good governance, and economic stability as the new parliamentary year commenced.

“This moment marks not only the continuation of our democratic journey but also provides us with an opportunity to review our progress and reaffirm our commitment to building a better future for Pakistan,” he said in his address to lawmakers.

Emphasizing the importance of responsible governance, the President urged members of the National Assembly and Senate to prioritize political and economic stability.

“As we embark on this new parliamentary year, I urge this house to promote good governance and political economic stability,” he stated.

He reminded lawmakers of their duty to serve the nation. “Our people have pinned their hope on parliament, and we must rise to the occasion,” he stressed.

The President also underscored the need for reinforcing democratic institutions and restoring public trust in governance. “It is my first duty to remind you that we need to work harder to strengthen our democratic system, restore public confidence in the rule of law, and put Pakistan on the road to prosperity,” he said.

The speech set the tone for the upcoming legislative year, signaling a call for unity and commitment to addressing the country’s challenges.

The opposition on the occasion of the President address staged protest and created hue and cry and made anti government sloganeering.
