ISLAMABAD: Pakistan interim white-ball coach, Aqib Javed, has also been appointed as the interim red-ball head coach for the upcoming Test series against South Africa,
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially confirmed the appointment of Aqib as the interim head coach following the unexpected resignation of red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie. Gillespie’s departure was largely attributed to escalating differences with the PCB, which created a rift that ultimately led to his exit.
Earlier today, it was reported that Gillespie had refused to travel to South Africa, where he was scheduled to oversee a specialized training camp ahead of the two-match Test series. Sources close to the situation revealed that his decision to abandon the trip, which was set to begin yesterday, stemmed from the PCB’s decision not to extend the contract of red-ball assistant coach Tim Nielsen. This move appeared to deeply unsettle Gillespie.
While Gillespie cited personal reasons for his refusal to travel, many believe his decision was fueled by growing discontent with the PCB’s recent administrative changes.
