LAHORE: Punjab’s prolonged dry spell is expected to end with the arrival of a westerly weather system, bringing rain to most districts and snowfall to hilly regions.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab and the Meteorological Department confirmed this weather system will enter Punjab on January 16, remaining active until January 19. This marks the onset of a rainy phase across the province.
Rains are forecast in major Punjab districts, including Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, and Faisalabad from January 20-23. Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur are also set to experience rainfall.
Murree and Galiyat are bracing for heavy snowfall and rain during this period, heightening risks of road blockages and travel disruptions. Authorities have issued alerts to district administrations to prepare for potential emergencies.
Tourists, particularly those heading to Murree and nearby areas, are urged to follow safety precautions and adhere to official guidelines. Officials emphasize the importance of advance arrangements and public cooperation to reduce weather-related risks.
On a national scale, the Meteorological Department predicts rain and snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and surrounding areas from January 16-19, with forecasted rainfall in Islamabad and most of Punjab from January 20-23. Upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may see precipitation on January 23, while Balochistan is likely to witness rain and snowfall between January 21-23.
