PDMA warns of rain, thunderstorms across Punjab from October 10 to 14

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert, warning of rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in several parts of the province from October 10 to 14.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday, bringing rainfall to various districts of Punjab.

The forecast predicts rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal and Mianwali during the five-day period.

Intermittent showers and thunderstorms are also expected in Faisalabad, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh on October 10, 11 and 13.

Authorities directed to take precautionary measures

PDMA Director General Saif Anjum Jappa warned of potential landslides in Murree, Galyat and other mountainous areas due to the expected rainfall.

He instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain vigilant and ensure that necessary precautionary arrangements were in place to deal with any emergency.

The Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government and Livestock departments have also been alerted and directed to prepare for possible weather-related challenges.

Public urged to follow safety guidelines

The PDMA has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and remain in safe locations. People have also been urged to stay away from weak structures and mud houses during storms.

Citizens should seek shelter during thunderstorms and lightning, while parents have been advised to keep children away from standing water, electrical wires and utility poles.

The authority stressed that precautionary measures were essential to minimise the risk of accidents and protect lives during the anticipated spell of unsettled weather.
