PESHAWAR: Police have thwarted an attack by more than 30 militants on a police post in Hassan Khel, Peshawar, with one police officer martyred and three others injured during the exchange of fire.
According to the CCPO, the militants launched a coordinated assault on the Speen Mela police post from two directions, using heavy weapons from the Moosazai Dara side. Sixteen police personnel deployed at the post fought back and successfully repulsed the attack, the CCPO said. The attackers had also brought an improvised explosive device (IED) to the site, which police personnel safely defused, he added.
Earlier attack attempt foiled in Hangu
In a separate incident earlier this year, police and security forces foiled an infiltration attempt by more than 100 militants affiliated with Fitna Al-Khawarij (FAK) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, officials said.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the Hangu Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Frontier Corps (FC) and security forces for their response to the attempted attack.
According to the KP Police Director of Public Relations, militants attempted to enter the areas of Zargari, Shinawari and Naryab from the mountainous region of Orakzai district after security forces launched an operation on Monday.
The militants also attempted to surround several border posts, but a timely response by police, CTD, FC and Pakistan Army personnel prevented them from advancing, officials said.
