Peshawar Zalmi qualify for the playoffs by defeating Quetta by 76 runs.

RAWALPINDI: In the 25th match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9, Peshawar Zalmi qualified for the play-off stage by defeating Quetta Gladiators by a huge margin of 76 runs.

Peshawar Zalmi is the second team to reach PSL 9, Multan Sultans have already reached the playoffs, in this match played at Pindi Stadium, Riley Russo, captain of Quetta Gladiators, won the toss and invited Peshawar Zalmi to bat.

Peshawar Zalmi scored 196 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, captain Babar Azam scored 53 runs. 

Apart from this, Saeem Ayub scored 30, Mohammad Haris 20, Cadmore 33, Haseebullah got out by scoring 6 runs. Romain Paul remained unbeaten by scoring 28 runs. 

Aqeel Hussain from Quetta Gladiators scored the first hat-trick of HBL PSL 9, he dismissed four players. 

Aqeel Hussain took wickets on the second, third and fourth balls of his fourth over, dismissing Peshawar Zalmi’s Amir Jamal, Mehran Mumtaz and Luke Wood. Apart from this, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Hasnain and Abrar Ahmed took one wicket each. 

Chasing Peshawar Zalmi’s target of 197 runs, the Quetta Gladiators team was bowled out for 120 runs in the 18th over. In pursuit of the target, none of the batsmen could play a big innings from Quetta Gladiators, Saud Shakeel scored 24 runs and Jason Roy scored 16 runs. 

Apart from this, Riley Russo scored 8, Sohail Khan 7 and Khawaja Nafi scored 5 runs, Abrar Ahmed was dismissed for zero.

On behalf of Peshawar Zalmi, Saim Ayub, Luke Wood, Mehran Mumtaz and Khurram Shehzad dismissed 2 players, while Amir Jamal and Naveen Haq took one wicket each.

With this win, Peshawar Zalmi qualified for the play-offs, the only team to reach the play-offs in every season of the PSL.

In PSL Season 9, Multan Sultans are at the first with 12 points and Peshawar Zalmi at second  with 11 points, both have qualified for the next stage.
