ISLAMABAD: The federal petroleum minister has invited representatives of the Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association for discussions on the proposed daily adjustment of petroleum prices, with the meeting scheduled for 4:00pm on Tuesday.
According to the association, the talks will focus on several key issues, including an increase in dealers’ commission, the mechanism for implementing daily fuel price revisions, supply-related concerns, and other demands raised by petrol pump operators.
The association said it remains committed to resolving outstanding matters through dialogue but warned that it would decide its future course of action if the negotiations fail to produce meaningful progress.
“We prefer to settle these issues through talks, but if our concerns are not addressed, we will announce our next steps,” the association said, adding that it would continue its campaign through lawful and democratic means.
The meeting comes a day after the federal government issued fresh guidelines to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), authorising the regulator to revise petroleum prices on a daily basis without seeking prior government approval.
Under the new framework, petrol prices will be determined according to import costs and the applicable premium. If fuel is not imported, prices will instead be calculated using the annual average premium. Diesel prices, meanwhile, will be based on import costs and the average rate recorded over the previous seven days, according to the official directive.
