PHC dismiss petition filed by ANP chief against rehabilitation of terrorists

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court rejects the petition filed by senator and ANP Chief Aimal Wali Khan regarding the rehabilitation of terrorists.

While rejecting the petition, the court stated that the petitioner had not provided any evidence of a violation of fundamental rights, and that policymaking is the prerogative of the government. A government policy cannot be declared null and void merely on the basis of unpopularity.

The verdict mentioned that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been a victim of terrorism for decades, with thousands of law enforcement personnel and civilians martyred, and the province facing billions of dollars in economic losses.

The court further noted that due to terrorism, the country’s reputation, especially that of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been affected internationally, and several political figures have been martyred in suicide attacks.

The decision also mentioned that the petitioner, being a senator, can raise the issue in parliament, and if he has concerns, he should approach the relevant government institutions.

The court declared the petition ineffective and rejected it, which had called for halting the rehabilitation of TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) members, conducting a judicial inquiry, and forming a fact-finding committee.
