PKR Hits Record Low Against US Dollar

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee continued to lose ground and fell to an all-time low of Rs182.64 against the US dollar in the inter-bank market on Wednesday.

Analysts believe that prevailing political uncertainty in the country was diverting the government’s attention to focus on the dollar and rupee parity in the country.

They said the lack of clarity regarding the outcome of negotiations between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was also putting pressure on the local unit.

The Pakistani rupee has depreciated by 15.9% (or Rs25.1) since the start of the current fiscal year on July 1, 2021, data released by the central bank revealed.
