ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced to invest one billion dollars in Artificial Intelligence (AI) by 2030.

At the opening of Indus AI Week in Islamabad, it was highlighted that this investment will significantly boost Pakistan’s AI ecosystem.

PM Shehbaz Sharif announced the introduction of AI curriculum in federally controlled schools and regions like AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Balochistan to prepare youth for leadership in the digital economy. He further revealed plans to offer 1,000 fully funded PhD scholarships in AI by 2030 to establish a world-class research center.

Additionally, the government aims to train one million non-IT professionals in AI skills nationwide to enhance productivity and livelihoods. The Prime Minister affirmed Pakistan’s readiness to emerge as a strong partner in the global AI realm and outlined efforts to transition youth from IT technicians to AI experts.

He expressed confidence that Indus AI Week would transform Pakistan’s technological landscape and serve as a game-changer.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal shared that Pakistan is establishing national centers focusing on quantum computing, advanced manufacturing, and nanotechnology, alongside launching the Quantum Valley project with four specialized science parks.

IT Minister Shaza Fatima emphasized aligning AI development with Pakistan’s values and priorities, noting this year’s implementation of the AI policy introduced in September 2022.
