PM Calls for Active Efforts for Polio Eradication

Islamabad (August 15, 2017): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a game-changer not only for Pakistan but the entire region.

He was talking to Chairman Parliamentary Committee on CPEC Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed in Islamabad on Tuesday. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said CPEC projects are testament to the ever strengthening China-Pakistan relations and will go a long way in securing a bright future for Pakistan.

He said CPEC projects are our government’s highest priority and he is personally supervising the progress of these projects. The Prime Minister appreciated the role of Parliamentary Committee on CPEC in building a national consensus over CPEC projects. Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed presented report of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC to the Prime Minister.

Chairing a high level meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that the government is committed to Polio eradication from the country.

The Prime Minister said eradication of polio is a matter of survival of our next generation. That is why we take full ownership of polio eradication. He directed to immediately call a meeting of the National Task Force on Polio Eradication and stated that he will personally monitor the progress.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Polio eradication requires a concerted effort from provincial governments, law enforcing agencies, district administration, civil society and international donors.

Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the progress made by the Ministry of National Health Services and the National Polio Eradication Program in significantly restricting the polio virus.

Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar and Chairperson, National Polio Eradication Program Ayesha Raza Farooq briefed the Prime Minister on progress regarding polio eradication.

Talking to a delegation of Senators from FATA in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said change in Federally Administered Tribal Areas is must to end the status quo. The Prime Minister said that equal treatment of FATA residents in all social sectors shall be ensured.

He said that the government is prioritizing legal reforms along with the constructive change in affairs of FATA in consultation with all stakeholders to bring the area at par with other federating units.

Prime MinisterShahid Khaqan Abbasi said additional resources shall be allocated to FATA for improving health, education, infrastructure and social sectors.
