ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday announced that petroleum prices will be reduced today, offering much-needed relief to the public amid declining global oil prices.
Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said that the government is committed to passing on the benefit of lower international oil prices to the people. He added that the formal announcement regarding the revised petroleum prices would be made shortly.
In another major relief measure, the prime minister revealed that, in collaboration with the finance minister, energy secretary, and other relevant officials, electricity tariffs have been reduced by Rs. 7.50 per unit. This reduction will benefit all consumers, including the business community, helping to ease the economic burden.
On a somber note, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the brutal killing of eight innocent Pakistani citizens, calling it a heinous and inhumane act. He informed the cabinet that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has spoken with his Iranian counterpart, and that a formal statement has also been issued from Pakistan’s side.
Expressing hope for swift justice, the prime minister urged the Iranian government to take immediate action in arresting and punishing those responsible for the killings.
