ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the creation of a comprehensive roadmap aimed at expanding agricultural exports over the next five years.
Presiding over a meeting of the Working Group on Agriculture Reforms in Islamabad today, the Prime Minister emphasized that revitalizing the agricultural sector and introducing farmers to globally recognized practices is a key priority for the government.
He highlighted that both federal and provincial governments are actively working to advance agriculture through reforms within their respective domains. Efforts are underway to ensure farmers have access to high-quality seeds, fertilizers at affordable prices, and effective crop protection methods, all aimed at boosting per-acre yields.
Shehbaz Sharif underlined that strategic policies are being implemented to enhance the export potential of agricultural products by investing in value-added processing technologies.
He also pointed out a recent initiative where one thousand Pakistani students were sent to China on government funding to receive training in advanced agricultural techniques.
Recognizing the sector’s vast potential for growth, the Prime Minister stated that investments in agricultural research are being prioritized to optimize productivity within existing resource constraints.
Furthermore, plans are being developed to enhance exports of fisheries, fruits, and their by-products. He also stressed the necessity of policy initiatives to promote palm oil production along the coastal regions.
