PM Nawaz Leaves for Tajikistan on 2-Day Official Visit

Islamabad (July 5, 2017): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has left for Tajikistan ona two-day official visit with a high level delegation.The prime minister will be visiting Tajikistan on the invitation of President Emomali Rahmon.

The prime minister is accompanied by a high level delegation including Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Minister Trade Khurram Dastgir, and Advisor for Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. Secretary Water and Power, Chairman NHA, and high officials of Foreign Ministry are also a part of prime minister’s delegation.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit is a part of the efforts to strengthen regional peace, stability, and cooperation.

The meeting of Pakistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan Tripartite Commission is also scheduled to be held in capital Dushanbe on the sidelines of the visit to hold discussions on regional topics of mutual interest.

A Joint Declaration titled “Road towards strategic partnership for regional solidarity” will also be signed during the visit.

Accompanied by a high level delegation the prime minister will meet Tajik leaders in capital Dushanbe to discuss issues pertaining to bilateral relations, economic cooperation, trade and investment, energy cooperation and regional connectivity.

Regional and international issues of mutual interest with particular attention to Pakistan’s policy of a peaceful neighborhood will also be discussed in these meetings.A meeting of Pak-Tajik Joint Business Council will also be held on the sidelines of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit. The Joint Business Council will consider steps to enhance bilateral trade and commercial ties between the two countries.

Tajikistan is also hosting a Quadrilateral Summit of CASA-1000 member states, including Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan.

This project aims at developing energy corridor and land connectivity between Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It will also provide electricity generated in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
