ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green light to electricity projects aimed at Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan, as he chaired a meeting in Islamabad today to discuss ongoing reforms in the power sector.
Prime Minister approved the immediate execution of a comprehensive plan to address electricity supply issues in Gwadar Port City. The Prime Minister highlighted that an uninterrupted power supply in Gwadar would stimulate economic activities and attract investments to the region.
He expressed optimism that with stable electricity and other essential facilities, Gwadar’s port has the potential to evolve into a leading global port and a hub for future economic undertakings.
For Gilgit-Baltistan, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of the proposed 100 MW solar project, emphasizing that it must provide a consistent and environmentally friendly energy supply. He instructed that the project be launched without delay.
PM reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to the welfare and economic growth of Gilgit-Baltistan, placing these goals among its top priorities. He mentioned that concerted efforts are underway to promote industrialization, attract investments, and boost economic development in the region.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the proposals presented by the committee led by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and the Ministry of Power, focusing on resolving electricity challenges. He directed the Ministry of Power to ensure the practical implementation of the comprehensive strategy, which encompasses immediate, short-term, and long-term initiatives.
During the meeting, it was shared that substantial actions are being taken to guarantee a reliable power supply for both domestic and commercial users in Gwadar. Additionally, it was noted that provisions including land, communication infrastructure, and other essential facilities for Gilgit-Baltistan’s electricity projects will be ensured within the stipulated timelines.
