ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the expansion of Lahore and Karachi airports under their respective master plans, directing authorities to complete the projects within the timelines and in line with international standards.
The prime minister issued the directives while chairing a meeting on airport expansion and improvements in passenger facilities in Islamabad on Thursday.
Emphasising the importance of passenger convenience, Shehbaz said providing quality services to travellers must remain the top priority at all airports across the country.
He instructed the relevant departments to maintain high construction standards and ensure independent third-party assessments of initiatives aimed at upgrading airport infrastructure and passenger services.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, participants reviewed the findings of a recent survey conducted by an international company to evaluate passenger facilities at major airports.
The prime minister called for the involvement of internationally recognised organisations to bring airport services up to global standards. He also directed that airport officials and staff dealing with passengers undergo regular training to improve service delivery.
Highlighting the need for effective coordination, he stressed that all agencies operating at airports must work together to ensure a smooth and convenient experience for travellers.
Shehbaz also instructed authorities to engage reputable catering companies at airports, warning that the quality of food and beverages served to passengers must not be compromised.
During the meeting, officials presented the master plans for Lahore and Karachi airports, detailing proposed expansion projects and their construction schedules.
The prime minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely completion of both projects while maintaining quality and adhering to internationally recognised standards.
