ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Andy Burnham on officially taking office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He also expressed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation with the UK.
Andy Burnham was officially appointed as the UK Prime Minister by King Charles III on July 20, following the resignation of the previous leader, Keir Starmer.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Shehbaz conveyed his best wishes to Burnham and hoped for his success during his tenure.
“Heartfelt congratulations to @andyburnham on becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” Shehbaz stated.
The Prime Minister emphasized his eagerness to work closely with Burnham to further deepen the historic bonds of friendship and collaboration between Pakistan and the UK. He highlighted that the relationship is strongly supported by the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Britain, who serve as a vital link between the two nations.
Shehbaz reaffirmed his government’s dedication to elevating Pakistan-UK relations, with a special focus on expanding economic ties and mutual investments.
“Together, we aim to take our bilateral relations, particularly trade and investment, to new heights,” he added.
Burnham assumed office after the outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer stepped down from his position.
