PM Shehbaz lands in Bishkek for three-day Kyrgyzstan visit

BISHKEK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Bishkek on Monday for a three-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan, where he will participate in key Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meetings and hold talks with the country’s leadership.

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev received the prime minister upon his arrival.

During his visit, PM Shehbaz will attend the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit. Pakistan is also set to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the upcoming year.

The prime minister will hold bilateral meetings with leaders participating in the SCO gatherings to discuss matters of mutual interest and regional cooperation.

He is also scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Bishkek.

A key engagement of the visit will be PM Shehbaz’s meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, during which the two leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

The discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts.

According to an earlier announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X, the prime minister’s visit will continue from August 31 to September 2 and includes participation in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting along with a series of bilateral engagements.

The visit comes as Pakistan seeks to strengthen ties with Kyrgyzstan and enhance cooperation with regional partners through the SCO platform.
