ISLAMABAD: Diplomatic sources have confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will undertake a one-day visit to Azerbaijan this Saturday.
The purpose of the visit is to participate in Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations in Baku, which honor the nation’s military achievements in reclaiming territories from Armenia during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to attend the event.
During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to hold meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, senior Azerbaijani officials, and Turkish President Erdoğan. The discussions are anticipated to focus on enhancing bilateral relations, regional cooperation, and exploring potential joint projects.
Sources further indicated that President Aliyev is likely to visit Pakistan in the upcoming months as part of ongoing efforts to bolster political and economic ties between the two nations. The last engagement between Shehbaz Sharif and Ilham Aliyev took place in September during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.
Victory Day in Azerbaijan marks the anniversary of the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the country’s victory over Armenia in the 2020 conflict. Pakistan and Turkey have been strong supporters of Azerbaijan throughout the war, which has further strengthened the trilateral relationship among the three countries.
