ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday presided over a high-level meeting to assess the risk of an energy crisis in light of escalating regional tensions, with top federal and provincial leadership in attendance.
The meeting focused on the potential disruption to petroleum supplies and the broader economic impact, as officials presented proposals on austerity and energy conservation measures.
Sources said discussions also covered possible adjustments in fuel prices. The federal government urged provinces to share the financial burden of subsidies on petroleum products, while another option under consideration was to pass on the full impact of rising prices to consumers.
During the session, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar briefed participants on his recent visit to China and shared updates on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States.
The meeting was attended by chief ministers from all four provinces, along with representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
Earlier in the day, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met the prime minister at the Prime Minister’s House, accompanied by Murad Ali Shah, where they discussed the evolving political and economic situation.
