BAKU: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the Azerbaijani capital on Friday for a two-day official visit to participate in the Victory Day celebrations, at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, the Foreign Office announced.
Upon his arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Razayev, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin, along with other diplomatic officials.
Accompanying the Prime Minister is Information Minister Ataullah Tarar. The visit, scheduled from November 7 to 8, aims to commemorate Azerbaijan’s fifth anniversary of Victory Day, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.
During his stay, PM Shehbaz is expected to meet with President Aliyev to discuss the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new opportunities to enhance cooperation across various sectors such as trade, energy, defense, education, and regional connectivity, the statement added.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a historic and close relationship rooted in common faith, cultural ties, and mutual trust. The two nations also collaborate actively within international organizations, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and the United Nations.
The Foreign Office highlighted that the Prime Minister’s visit reaffirms Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also strengthening the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.
This visit marks PM Shehbaz’s third trip to Azerbaijan in 2025. His earlier visits included an official trip in February and participation as the head of the Pakistani delegation at the 17th ECO Summit held in Khankendi from July 3-4. During the summit, he met with President Aliyev, emphasizing how ongoing high-level interactions continue to bolster the relationship between Islamabad and Baku.
