PM Shehbaz Sharif calls US-Iran talks an opportunity for global peace

ZURICH: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the upcoming US-Iran technical-level discussions, held under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as a crucial chance to foster international peace.

Speaking in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, today, ahead of the talks, Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism that the summit would yield positive and concrete outcomes, advancing peace and development worldwide. He also extended gratitude to the United States, Iran, and Qatar for their ongoing efforts in facilitating these negotiations.

The Prime Minister specifically praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his steadfast commitment and leadership throughout the diplomatic process.

Meanwhile, US Vice President J D Vance shared his perspective, stating that there is a shared vision for collaboration to promote peace and prosperity. He mentioned that President Trump had authorized the US delegation to seek resolutions on various issues, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Vance also commended Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, highlighting his diplomatic acumen and stating, “We wouldn’t be where we are today without his statesmanship.” He revealed that during the past three months, he had spoken more frequently with the Army Chief than anyone else.
