ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has cancelled his upcoming trip to Russia due to the fast-changing and sensitive situation unfolding across the Middle East and surrounding regions.
Sources within the Prime Minister’s Office said Sharif had been scheduled to leave for a two-day official visit to Moscow on Monday, 2 March. However, in light of growing regional tensions and security concerns, the visit has been postponed until further notice.
An emergency high-level meeting has been called for this afternoon to assess the evolving developments. Senior officials are expected to deliberate on key matters related to national security and Pakistan’s broader regional strategy.
Authorities have formally notified Moscow that the visit will not go ahead under the present circumstances. The meeting is also expected to review Pakistan’s potential participation in the funeral ceremonies of Ali Khamenei.
