PM Shehbaz thanks Global Support after Islamabad suicide attack

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed gratitude to the international community for the messages of condolence and solidarity received following the deadly suicide bombing in Islamabad, reaffirming that those responsible will face uncompromising action.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the prime minister said that the backing of Pakistan’s friends and partners has always played a vital role in the country’s fight against terrorism. He stressed that there would be no tolerance or leniency for the perpetrators of what he described as a brutal and inhumane act.

The prime minister further stated that the malicious objectives of terrorists would never be allowed to materialize, adding that the nation remains united and resolute in its determination to eliminate terrorism.

Meanwhile, grief continues to grip the affected area following the attack.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suicide bomber used four to six kilograms of explosives, packed with a large quantity of ball bearings to maximize damage.

According to investigators, the attacker fired six pistol shots before entering the main prayer hall of the mosque, where he detonated the explosive device. Authorities revealed that the attacker had received training in Afghanistan and had a documented travel history. An identity card recovered from the site helped confirm his identity.

The attacker has been identified as Yasir, son of Dil Bahadur Khan, a resident of Mohalla Qaziyan, Peshawar. Law enforcement agencies have arrested four of his relatives from Peshawar as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials confirmed that the initial inquiry report has been finalized.

The collective funeral prayers for the martyrs will be offered today at 11:00am.
