PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms across upper, central Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across several upper and central parts of the country from August 13 to 15.

According to the weather advisory, rainfall is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the evening or night of August 13 through August 15.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Potohar region are also likely to experience showers during the forecast period.

The PMD has warned of strong winds and thunderstorms in Bahawalpur, Khanpur and Multan over the next three to five hours. Similar weather conditions are expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhail, while rain is also likely in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar and northeastern Punjab.

Southeastern and coastal areas of Sindh are expected to remain partly cloudy.

The department has cautioned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.

There is also a risk of landslides in mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.

The PMD has advised tourists and travellers to exercise caution between August 13 and 15 and urged farmers to plan agricultural activities in accordance with the forecast weather.

Relevant authorities and emergency agencies have been directed to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to deal with any weather-related incidents.
