PML-N, Allies Have Comfortable Majority in NA

Islamabad (August 1, 2017): As the National Assembly is going to elect a new leader of the house today after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and its allies have comfortable majority to elect their nominee Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as prime minister in today’s election.

The National Assembly will elect the country’s eighteenth prime minister today.

The PML-N has 187 members in the house which are more than enough to elect its nominee. When the PML-N and allies votes are put together the number comes to be 220.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has 14 members, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional has five members, PkMAP has three members, National Party two members, while PML-Zia has one member.The total numbers of opposition members in the house are 120. PPP has 47 members, PTI 33, MQM 24, Jamaat-e-Islami four, while PML-Q and ANP have two votes each.

Awami Muslim League, BNP, QWP, AJIP, APML have one vote each.

Three independent member of assembly are also sitting on opposition benches in the National Assembly.
