ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abid Sher Ali has been elected as a senator without contest, party sources announced on Monday.
Officials revealed that two candidates, Rana Ehsan Afzal and Abdul Jabbar, withdrew their nomination papers, paving the way for Abid Sher Ali’s unopposed win. Initially, both had filed their candidacy for the Senate election but later decided to step aside.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is expected to release an official notification soon to confirm his election.
This Senate seat was left vacant after the passing of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, triggering the election process.
With no contenders remaining, the PML-N has secured the seat effortlessly, further solidifying its position in the upper house.
