PML-N, PPP Agree On Caretaker Premier’s Name

Islamabad (May  17, 2018): Pakistan People’s Party and ruling Party PML-N have agreed on the name of Ishtaique Ahmed for the upcoming caretaker Prime Ministership slot.

Sources have said that names of Tasaduq Hussain Jeelani and Dr Hafeez Pasha were also under consideration, but were rejected by the PPP. Sources have said that agreeing at the name of Ishtiaque Ahmed shows week position of PML-N, which is in a spot of bother after the controversial statement of former PM, Nawaz Sharif about Mumbai attacks.

On May 11, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition leader Khurshid Shah finally arrived at a consensus pertaining to the name of caretaker PM.

“The name of caretaker PM is secure in my heart. I will not tell it to media no matter how many time they ask,” emphasized Khursheed Shah.

On May 4, Prime Minister and the opposition leader decided to fix matters of caretaker setup in principle and finalized two names for the caretaker PM.

In this regard a meeting between the Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah will be held between 15 to 28 May, in which name of the upcoming caretaker PM will be announced, said sources. Earlier, Prime Minister had said that government will say “Yes” to whatever name given by the opposition for caretaker Prime Minister.

It may be recalled that on April 11, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah held discussion pertaining to the setup of the caretaker government, the meeting continued for an hour.

The prime minister shared the opinion of the government and its allies with the opposition leader on the name of the caretaker prime minister.
