PML-N Registers Protest to EC Over Arrest of Party Leaders

Islamabad (June 27, 2018): The PML-N delegation led by Raja Zafarul Haq met with chief election commissioner and registered protest over the arrest of party leaders by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) saying it was election commission onus to remove bottlenecks in way of transparent and fair election.

The delegation apprised CEC over the arrest of party candidate Qamarul Islam and others and termed it inappropriate steps taken by the NAB when election campaign getting a swing.

Talking to media after the meeting with CEC, Raja Zafarul Haq said that the arrest of Qamarul Islam was a reprisal act by the NAB.

“Arrest just before the election is not appropriate and remove such barriers is the responsibility of the election commission,” he said.The N-League delegation told media that election commission has assured them to redress their complaints.

On June 26, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif directed party’s top brass to register ‘strong protest’ against anti-graft watchdog as National Accountability Bureau continues to tight noose over alleged corruption.

Nawaz gave the directions to the party leaders through a phone call from London. He also telephoned Shehbaz Sharif, the party’s president, and discussed the election campaign.

The former premier discussed the current situation and future strategy regarding the arrest of party candidates by the NAB.
