Poet Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi being remembered on his death anniversary today

Web Desk: The 19th death anniversary of renowned poet Ahmad Shah Awan, commonly known as Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi is being observed today.

He was born on 20th November 1916 in Anga village of Khushab District.

Qasmi was a prominent voice in Urdu literature.He wrote over 50 books, including poetry collections, short stories, literary criticism, and essays.

His notable works include Jalal-o-Jamal, Shola-i-Gul, Kisht-i-Wafa, and short story anthologies like Chopaal, Sannata, and Kapaas ka Phool.

Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi’s writing often focused on humanism, social justice, and rural life. He is regarded as one of the most influential Urdu short story writers, known for his deep insight and emotional expression.

He was also an active member of the Progressive Writers’ Movement and edited several literary journals, including his long-running publication Funoon.

He was given Pride of Performance, Pakistan Academy of Letters’ lifetime achievement award, as well as civil award, Sitara-i-Imtiaz.

Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi also worked as a script writer for Radio Pakistan.

Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi passed away on July 10, 2006, in Lahore at the age of 89.
