Police disperse protest near Adiala Jail, detain Aleema Khan, several activists

RAWALPINDI: : Police launched an operation near the Gorkhapur checkpoint close to Adiala Jail, dispersing a protest and taking multiple activists, including Aleema Khan, into custody.

Earlier, Aieema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, refused to end the sit-in on Adiala Road. Following her refusal, female police personnel were called in, and officers removed the protesters from the site.

Police detained 8 to 10 protesters, placing them in a prisoner van, and also took Aleema Khan into custody. During the protest near Gorkhapur checkpoint, Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, fell ill.

It is noteworthy that police had blocked the route to Adiala Jail today, and no permission was granted for any leader or family member to meet Imran Khan. Due to the denial of permission for a meeting today, Aleema Khan staged a sit-in on Adiala Road.

The police requested her to clear the route, but negotiations failed, and Aleema Khan refused to end the protest. Subsequently, police used water cannons to disperse the protesters gathered on the road.
