Police officer loses life in armed assault in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A police officer lost his life in a shooting carried out by an unidentified armed suspect in Islamabad on Saturday.

According to police reports, the suspect opened fire on Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ali Akbar of Islamabad Police near CDA Chowk, located at IGP Road, within the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi Police Station, before fleeing the scene.

ASI Ali Akbar, who sustained critical injuries, was immediately transported to Rawalpindi Holy Family Hospital from Khayaban Sir Syed. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

At the time of the incident, Ali Akbar was assigned duty at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has taken notice of the tragic incident and instructed law enforcement officials to expedite the arrest of the suspect. He has also requested a detailed report on the matter from the IG Islamabad Police.

In his statement, Mohsin Naqvi paid homage to the fallen ASI Ali Akbar. He expressed deep sympathy and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them that their grief is shared by all.
