Polio Virus Contaminated Lahore’s Sewage

Lahore (August 02, 2018): Water samples collected from Lahore’s sewage have proved to be contaminated with Polio virus.

According to Punjab Health Department, presence of Polio virus has been confirmed in the city’s sewage water samples, that were collected from Outfall Road on July 11. The virus was also found in the samples collected in June.

According to the health authorities, Lahore sewage have been found carrying Polio virus for two consecutive months.The consistent presence of the Polio virus in sewage water is an alarming situation. According to officials of health department, an emergency meeting has been called over this issue.

According to details, the department also decided to launch a Polio vaccination drive commencing from August 6 in all the areas of the city.

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a crippling childhood disease caused by the polio virus, and preventable through immunization. Pakistan is battling with Polio for several years and is close to completely eradicating the disease from the country.
