MUZAFFARABAD: The political situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has become increasingly volatile, with three additional ministers from the ruling coalition resigning, bringing the total resignations to four.
After the earlier departure of Information Minister Muhammad Mazhar Saeed, Finance Minister Abdul Majid Khan, Food Minister Akbar Ibrahim, and the Minister for Sports, Youth, and Culture have now officially resigned and submitted their notices to Prime Minister Anwarul Haq. During a press briefing, both Abdul Majid Khan and Akbar Ibrahim confirmed their resignations, openly criticizing Prime Minister Haq and stating they could no longer serve under his leadership.
The outgoing ministers openly criticized the prime minister, suggesting he should step down himself, especially citing disagreements over the controversial removal of refugee seats in the legislative assembly. They accused the government of deliberately destabilizing the political landscape and claimed that the deterioration of the situation was intentional.
Abdul Majid Khan also claimed that although the health card scheme was approved in two consecutive budgets, its implementation was intentionally delayed. He further accused the government of ignoring the demands of the Joint Public Action Committee and of introducing contentious issues, such as proposals to reduce refugee representation.
These resignations highlight a widening rift within the coalition, casting doubt on the government’s stability and its capacity to effectively lead amidst rising public discontent.
